Maca grows in several natural color varieties: yellow, red, and black. They share the same family of naturally occurring compounds (macamides, macaenes, glucosinolates) but in different ratios depending on the color. In traditional Andean agriculture, different maca colours have historically been distinguished and used in different cultural contexts. Our Tri Color Maca combines yellow, red and black maca varieties in a single product. Both our Tri Color Maca and Black Maca are licensed for the same Health Canada uses (source of antioxidants, support for emotional aspects of sexual health, healthy mood balance during menopause). The choice is mostly preference: Tri Color blends all three colors in one capsule; Black Maca is the single-variety option.
