About spirulina
Spirulina is the common name for Arthrospira platensis, a microscopic blue-green algae that grows in warm, mineral-rich freshwater lakes around the world. It's eaten as a food and used as a supplement, and is one of the few non-plant, non-animal organisms regularly included in human diets.
In modern nutritional research, spirulina has been studied for its antioxidant content and its effects on allergic rhinitis, the hay-fever-style nasal symptoms most people associate with seasonal allergies. Those two areas are what the Health Canada licence for this product covers.

Common questions
Is it suitable for both men and women? +
Yes, for any adult 18 or older, and at the age-banded doses listed above for adolescents and children.
Can I take it with my medications? +
We always recommend talking with your healthcare provider before combining any supplement with prescription medication. They know your full picture and can help you decide what fits.
Can I take it alongside other supplements? +
We always recommend talking to your healthcare provider before combining any supplements. Every body is different, and your provider knows your personal health history best. If they give you the green light, we suggest introducing one supplement at a time and seeing how your body responds before adding the next.
Can children take it? +
Yes. The Health Canada-licensed dose includes children 10 and older. Children 10 to 11 take 1 tablet, 1 to 2 times daily. Adolescents 12 to 14 take 1 tablet, 1 to 2 times daily. Adolescents 15 to 17 take 2 tablets, 1 to 3 times daily. If you're considering it for a child, your healthcare provider can help you decide what fits.
Is spirulina tested for heavy metals? +
Yes. Spirulina is a category where heavy-metal testing is a real and well-known concern, since it's a microorganism cultivated in water. Every batch of ours is third-party tested for heavy metals in addition to standard microbiology testing.
Why tablets and not capsules? +
A 1,000 mg dose of pure spirulina is more practical to deliver in tablet form. Capsule fills are limited by the size of the capsule itself, and a 1,000 mg fill would mean a notably larger capsule than most people prefer to swallow.
When's the best time to take it? +
For allergic rhinitis support, splitting the daily total across the day (morning and afternoon) is what most people do.
Can I take it during pregnancy or breastfeeding? +
Please check with your healthcare provider first. Pregnancy and breastfeeding are specifically flagged in the cautions on the licence.
Do you offer other bottle sizes or subscriptions? +
Our current size is 150 tablets. We're always working on expanding our catalogue with new sizes and product lines, so keep an eye out. In the meantime, you can find us on Amazon at our Amazon storefront, where we run ongoing promotions, offer Subscribe & Save, and bulk-purchase discounts at checkout.
What if it's not for me? +
We have a first-order satisfaction policy. If your first bottle of Kasha Nutrition Spirulina isn't a fit, reach out to us with your order ID and we'll take care of you. We'd rather you get something that works than hold a bottle you don't want.
My bottle just arrived. Anything I should know? +
Check that the seal under the cap is intact, then store it in a cool, dry spot away from direct sunlight. The lot number is on the bottle (bottom, or top just below the rim) if you ever want batch-specific test results. If you find any broken tablets in the bottle, that's not a quality concern: spirulina tablets are compressed powder and can occasionally break in transit. They're still fine to take.
Third-party testing
Every batch is independently third-party tested. A sample report is available here.
Want results for your specific bottle? Find the lot number on the bottle (bottom, or top just below the rim), and email it to info@kashanutrition.com with your order ID. We'll send the test results for your batch.
